Skatefurther is all about skating distance. It is also a firm believer that people skate distance for lots of different reasons. Two 17 year olds, Danny and Edwin, from New Jersey are skateboarding across their state again, to continue to raise money for a charity that is close to their hearts. Skate Cape May is a 200+ mile longboarding journey from the top of New Jersey (High Point) to the bottom (Cape May) with the intent to raise funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research. Last year, Skate Cape May received an award as a Top 100 Fundraiser for 2010 for ALSF after raising over $10,000 for the organization!
The Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation was founded by Alex Scott, a Pennsylvania child who suffered from cancer. In July 2000 she asked to have a lemonade stand to help raise money for cancer research. Her stand raised $2,000 the first day. Her family continued her fight when Alex passed away in 2004 at eight years of age. To date, the organization has raised over $40 million dollars.
They’ll be skating anywhere from 20-50 miles a day from town to town, where they’ll meet up with a Skate Cape May lemonade stand in that town to raise money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer!
