When I first got in contact with Jonno Shakesby, head honcho at Decent Hardware, I was taken by his commitment to fair trade ethics, the handmade, custom nature of his products and the sheer brilliance of the bags he produces. So I thought it might be good to put a little review up of the Decent Hardware Park Bag.
Jonno supplied me with a yellow Park Bag (fairly unique I’m told), which arrived well packaged and, well, it was extremely……yellow. The Park Bag is the smallest bag in the Decent Hardware range, made mainly for shortboards and minis, but I was confident that it would fit my G|Bomb Illuminati in complete form, and thankfully it did.
Great for carrying up to three skateboards (two inside and one out) and all your tools, clothes, wheels and other bits, the bag starts at 38 inches, but through an ingenious unzipping method, is expandable to 48 inches, which will fit a complete Rayne Demonseed in there quite happily.
The bag comes with various handles, extender straps and a shoulder strap, as well as little cinching in straps along the side to get that board fitting right like it should. On one side is a zippered pocket which contains two rucksack straps which clip on to locking clips at the bottom of the bag. Clever.
There is a large internal zippered pocket which will fit a folded up hoody, or a tonne of your parts and things in there nicely. On the inside of the top zippered flap of the bag is a pocket for your keys with a little key holder in there, as well as mobile phone pocket and tool holder. Outside there’s a mesh pocket for putting your drink in as well.
The bag is made from some serious Cordura material which looks like it’s not going anywhere fast. Inside is Lucky Star PVC tarpaulin which appears to be equally tough. They come in a multitude of colours (including the Skate Further favourite orange) and even faux fur if that’s what you’re looking for!
I would say this bag is perfect for anyone going on a road trip for the weekend, travelling to Ultraskate and other events where it can be stashed in a car. It just makes your board fit in places on public transport whereas before you had to worry about it sliding up and down overhead storage space. You'll still need somewhere to put your helmet though, as a pisspot may only just fit in if you put it in the extended bit.
If you’ve got a lot of gear or you’re planning on going abroad for an extended period of time, why not try the Body Bag, which is a massive beast of a bag?
Overall, I’m really impressed with Decent Hardware. These bags are prized by their owners and as I am one now, I get to be a smug git too. I love them so much that I recently got a Decent laptop bag in purple and faux zebra fur to give me a set of luggage for travelling with. Bring on the Decent Backpacks!
It’s well worth contacting Jonno regarding availability and delivery times, as well as costs. I got a good deal, and it was sent really quickly after payment.
